From Internship Project to Eighth Place in Global Competition

Tayyip Ensar Özkaya, Mechatronics student at the Turkish-German University, completed his internship in the summer of 2018 in the Automation Technology Department of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology (IPK) in Berlin. During this internship, he was trained in the Machine Vision Department and got the opportunity to work on the project for the World Robot Challenge in the field of machine vision.

The World Robot Summit 2018 in Tokyo is the first of a series of events that count as one of the largest robotics meetings in the world. The main event of this summit, besides the World Robot Expo, is the World Robot Challenge, which has brought together countless people from all over the world to compete in different categories of robotics and thereby realize a knowledge exchange.

Together with the team "BerlinAUTs", which consists of professional employees of the IPK and the Institute for Machine Tools and Factory Management (IWF), they participated in the World Robotics Challenge in the category "Industrial Robotics".

The tasks in this challenge, was to
- detect and transport specific objects with the help of cameras,
- sort multiple objects and
- assemble objects into an assembly.

The team BerlinAUTs took the eighth place with its robot.
